I couldn't let this gem go unmentioned. Our neighbors were the recipients of a stray kitten that someone dropped off in their driveway. Not wanting the cat to starve, they started leaving food out for it. But they were going away on a driving holiday and being concerned for the kitten, asked if we would check up on it. We agreed to make sure it had food in its bowl and fresh water. When the time came for the neighbors to leave, the offer for us was really sweetened. They suggested we move in there for the three weeks they were away. Is that not the most wonderful offer? As tempting as it was, we did not want to abandon our crew, so we just snuck a couple of showers there, but would go over daily to feed the cat and turn lights on and off. When they returned, they wanted to repay the favour by preparing a meal for us one evening. So, one day our neighbor arrived to advise us that dinner was being prepared for us and what time shall it arrive? Kind of a "meals on wheels" affair.
At the end of the working day, we returned to our trailer to find two cast-iron roasting pans. One had two roast chickens in it and the other was filled with roast vegetables and herbs. What a feast that was. We hope they get the travel bug!!
The kitten, since then, has been named "Ginger" and has gone from being a skittish little thing that I only saw as a flash of something when feeding it, to visiting us at the job-site, to becoming comfortable in their home. This is a picture of "Ginger".
