Housekeeping

This is our favourite day of the week. The day the gentleman arrives to clean out the port-a-potty. This week had the holiday Monday so he was a day late and at one point we thought he had missed us entirely. A panicked call was made to the company, but we were assured he was on his way. The job he does is pretty amazing, considering the task at hand. But the entire unit gets scrubbed, even the exterior back-side of it. And believe it or not, it is sweet when he is done. Apparently even the wildlife agrees, as one evening as I approached it at dusk, a red fox came running out from underneath of it. Scared the pants off me, which was appropriate considering the circumstances.

No facilities poses various problems. So far, garbage and recycle comes back to Ottawa with us each week. We brought our city compost bin out there, as we were generating more waste at the site than in the city, and figured it was just easier than finding time to build something. A more appropriate permanent unit will be constructed later. But in a couple of weeks when we vacate our city residence, we will be making trips to the dump. And as we are not permanent residents yet, we can't get any garbage tags, so our garbage will cost us by the bag, or for construction waste, by the yard.
