Week Four

With the building up and the roof on, it's time to start thinking about interior walls so that the plumber and the electrician can do their things. So Andre and I have been assigned the task of building the partition walls.

No worries! Well the first two that are needed are the 2x6 plumbing walls. One is over 12' long and close to almost 12' high, with a 2/12 pitch to follow the interior cathedral ceiling. Basically a trapezoid. I can barely draw one let alone frame one, but rose to the challenge, and after a real brain workout, thought I had pulled it off. Deirdre had worked out the stud lengths in advance in "Vectorworks", and while the first stud and last stud lengths were good, the others were not. So the method was to cut the sill plate to length, use the two exterior stud lengths which we knew, fasten them to the sill, square up those corners, then measure the distance at the top to determine how long to cut the top-plate. Then I measured at 16"o.c. the required lengths, cut them at 9.5 degrees to mate at the top-plate, and "Bob's Your Uncle!"

The next day we tackled the matching wall to this one, only it was of 2x4 material, and the other difference was Andre would be helping me. To abbreviate, we are still married...
