This has been the rainiest July on record. More than 2.5 times the typical precipitation for the month. The Ottawa newspaper states there were only 4 rain-free days in the month.
Ottawa has been harder hit than Perth though. For example, last week, we were rain free at the build site, but it had rained everyday in Ottawa. Scary black clouds, big wind, huge hail and torrential rains here at home according to our neighbours, but we were unscathed in Perth.
Last week we experienced a mix of sun and cloud. Everyday, the forecast in Perth was chance of showers in the afternoon, but they never materialized. The sun didn't really hit until steel had to go up. Is that ironic??
When we were trying to source our straw-bales, we had a couple of farmers who offered to grow us our bales. Thankfully, we purchased last years bales, which are safely stored in a dry barn. Had we chosen the option of using this years crop, we would have been in serious trouble as the farmers can barely get the hay off due to the rains. Our farmer Alvin, who is arranging for the bale delivery came by the site yesterday to check our progress. August 15 to 17th are the dates we are targeting to receive our bales, of course all weather dependent.
On a good water note, Andre hooked up the generator to the well pump and we were able to pump our first bit of water from our well. The picture here shows our spigot that we had installed on the well-head, to allow us water at the front of the house and the garage area, without having to run a tap through the bale walls. That's the garage pad in the back-ground, which is down below the house.
