While Deirdre and Justin were up on the roof dealing with the preparation for the steel, Andre and I were fabricating all of the mini-trusses which will form the skirt roof. The skirt roof is simply a small overhang which will serve to protect the gable-end bale walls from driving rains. We made one, put it up against the house to see what it would look like and to determine the pitch, and once we agreed that it was good we went into production. Although our roof has a 6/12 pitch, the skirt roof is 8/12 as it just looked right. Deirdre had drafted the layout, Jeremy had sketched it onto a template earlier and I had built a prototype.
From there, a jig was built - I did the cutting and Andre did the assembly. We will attach it to a couple of headers which are fastened to the house.
